Calcite Cluster

Calcite Cluster

Wessels Mine, Kalahari Manganese Field, Northern Cape, South Africa

Size: 2.5 x 3 x 1.8 cm (Thumbnail)

I am very fond of this specimen which is made up of multiple intergrown scalenohedral calcite crystals. The crystals all terminate towards the main termination. The surface of the calcite has a velvety sheen changing colour ever so lightly when you turn the specimen from side to side. The specimen also stands well on the base.
