Dioptase Cluster

Dioptase Cluster

Van der Plas Mine, Opuwo Rural, Kunene Region, Namibia

Size: 3.5 x 2.3 x 1.6 cm (Miniature)

An intergrown cluster of elongate crystals of dioptase on a matrix residue of shards of quartz. The dioptase crystals have the most basic crystal habit of hexagonal prism with simple doubly terminated rhombs. The material has a rich emerald green colour and high lustre euhedral crystals. The crystals have areas of gemmyness but not all through which creates some variation in the apparent colour. The largest crystal measures 2cm. The main crystal termination has smaller crystals of dioptase grown into the termination, these crystals do have some abrasions.
