The ilmenite has a lamellar tabular trigonal structure. these three characterestics can be seen in the structure and in some of the aligned surface patterns on the flat tabular crystal surfaces and some of the change in plane angular slopes between one tabular surface to another. The crystals of ilmenite are covered with a thin resinous ochre coloured marginally radio active material.
