Opal-AN on Schorl

Opal-AN on Schorl

Erongo Mountains, Karibib Constituency, Erongo Region, Namibia

Size: 4.3 x 2.7 x 2.5 cm (Miniature)

The specimen has a doubly terminating crystal of schorl with the upper termination topped in opal-AN. The opal has grown in two phases, the first phase leaving a small botryoidal surface over pearlescent white opaque opal. Then the second phase of reniform to botryoidal intergrowths of transparent light yellow green opal defined the surface layers. The opal-AN fluoresces highly under long-wave UV light.
