Cobaltoan Calcite

Cobaltoan Calcite

Kolwezi Mine, Kolwezi, Mutshatsha, Lualaba, DR Congo

Size: 1.7 x 3.9 x 2.5 cm (Miniature)

The specimen has crystals of cobaltoan calcite on a calcitic matrix. Modified rhombic crystals of calcite have a deep magenta value very closely mimic the frosted surface luster of smithsonite. The narrow crystal face is part of an aggregate spread of crystals on top of a narrow wedge of rock matrix. The pink value has a deep tone and the crystals have a subtle frosted luster with intricate delicate detail. The largest crystal is 0.9cm x 0.7cm across.
