Heterogenite on Cobaltoan Calcite

Heterogenite on Cobaltoan Calcite

Kolwezi Mine, Kolwezi, Mutshatsha, Lualaba, DR Congo

Size: 3.5 x 3 x 1.5 cm (Miniature)

The specimen has small stacked crystal forms made up out of very shallow tabular rhombic crystals stacked one on top of another, like a small pile of crumpets. These formations have slightly arched convex top and their tabular habit revealed on the edges stacked one ontop of another. The calcite has a deep rose pink colour toned by a charcoal grey inclusion. One corner of the top spread has a deep charcoal coloured botryoidal metal deposit that could be heterogenite or goethite. There is some small abrasions on one side.
