Calcite

Calcite

N'Chwaning II Mine, Kalahari Manganese Field, Northern Cape, South Africa

Size: 3.4 x 2.5 x 2.1 cm (Miniature)

The specimen has a clear calcite crystal with modifications on a rhombic habit. There are some very shallow narrow bevelled dips towards edges. One face has a bevelled stepping down to a secondary surface plane level. There are also some simple angular edges. The blocky crystal is penetrated across one corner by two further and smaller crystals of calcite that are not quite in alignment. The overall impression of the specimen is one of brilliance with geometric planar faceting something like a cut stone. One of ther corners of the calcite does have a section missing but it can be displayed with that part as the base.
