Cobaltoan Calcite

Cobaltoan Calcite

Kolwezi Mine, Kolwezi, Mutshatsha, Lualaba, DR Congo

Size: 4.5 x 1.6 x 3.3 cm (Miniature)

The specimen is a deep wedge, with a flat vertical side and a flat shaping side. The calcite has a rich magenta colour in crystals forming an aggregate spread of rhombic based forms. On the surface the crystallization alludes to rhombic forms and finishes seen in smithsonite. The surface appears frosted and when moved there is a heen that follows the movement. Internally the crystals are transparent and gemmy.
