Yanga Koubenza quarries, Mfouati, Mfouati District, Bouenza Department, Rep of the Congo

Size: 2.8 x 2.9 x 1.3 cm (Thumbnail)

The specimen consists of a 3mm to 7mm layer of smithsonite on a country rock matrix. The smithsonite formed an edge to edge crystallized surface in a shallow botryoidal turquoise green spread. The surface is a patchwork of tiny geometric almost bubble-like patterns. The matrix is sawn on the under side.
